So we’ve been having quite the heatwave here on the West Coast. It’s unseasonably hot, dry and humid and temperatures have been getting up past 40 degrees celcius here on Vancouver Island! Now don’t get me wrong, I love warm, sunny days… but this feeling of “I feel like I’m roasting in a convection oven” weather is a bit unbearable! LOL!

To keep cool, we’ve been spending evenings down by the water… And one of my favourite places has got to be Cattle Point here in Victoria. If you love scenic strolls or sitting out looking at the serenity of the sea in front of you, then Cattle Point is your place to be to watch the sunset!

Cattle Point was aptly named so as back in the day, barges were loaded with cattle and other livestock and they would land here, and cattle would swim to the shore. This is when Vancouver Island was filled with farms and forests up and down the island. Now it’s where boats get launched to enjoy a day on the Haro Strait water, people picnic, take their dogs for strolls and people watch on the cool layers of rock formation from the glacial erosion thousands of years ago. On a clear sunny day, you’ll also be able to catch a glimpse of Mt. Baker in all her snow covered beauty stateside, and you can stare out past the San Juan Islands of Washington State in the distance, where you’ll see big shipping containers making their way between Canada and the US.

It’s truly the perfect place to cool off and wade your feet in on a warm Summer’s day!

Happy Exploring!
