It’s been over a year since we’ve been in this pandemic… and travel is essentially non-existent at the moment. So we’ve been exploring our beautiful island more and more. It’s been years since I last explored Sooke – even though it’s only an hour away from Victoria – but I’m so glad we recently spent a beautiful sunny, warm staycation weekend in East Sooke! East Sooke is a bit farther of a drive, but if you love rugged coastlines, moody rainforests, never-ending sandy beaches and small-town quaint local charm… You won’t regret the scenic drive! You’ll love exploring Sooke and want to keep coming back for more!
Our first stop was the Sooke Potholes… and I can honestly say I was amazed 10 years ago at the incredible rock formations then… and even more so now! So many amazing view points, rocks to traverse, trails to climb and we even stopped by the refreshing rock pools to cool off. We had a little picnic before checking into our next stop – it was the perfect start to our Sooke Staycation.
After leaving the Sooke Potholes, we checked into our little home-away-from-home for two nights – the East Sooke Treehouse sounds as amazing as our stay was! The owners of this incredible AirBnB recently built this beautiful treehouse and opened it to the public this Spring… And we were lucky to be the fourth guests to ever stay here! Our hosts Tyler and Madi were amazing, recommended the best trails to check out, so communicative and responsive, while the treehouse itself is beautifully crafted… our hosts really thought of everything! The custom built bathroom feels like you’re walking into a spa, folded towels, beautiful stonework and cedar-wood smell everything is incredible! Little details like fresh cut flowers, coffee ready to be brewed, and dog bowls and towel for our pup meant so much to us! Waking up in the middle of the forest was truly an amazing experience! Such a beautiful cozy getaway, right in the heart of East Sooke Regional Park, a quick 10-minute drive to the beach, and perfect for anyone looking for an awesome cozy feel like you’re a kid again, one-of-a-kind experience. We’ll definitely be back!
We also grabbed Take-Out at Stickleback West Coast Eatery… seriously delicious pub food and if you grab your dinner to go, make sure to sit out on their picnic tables and stroll down to the beach after! If we didn’t have our dog with us, we would have sat on their picturesque patio overlooking the delightful waterside cove. Highly recommend the seafood chowder with savoury bannock, their calamari and their pulled pork mac & cheese sandwich with yam fries! Yum!
The highlight of our weekend getaway was definitely adventuring around East Sooke Regional Park – the beach at Aylard Farm where we waded in the ocean, soaked up the sunshine and explored the awesome trails that lead from Pike Road to Iron Mine Bay with the most incredible viewpoints of the ocean were the perfect way to end an incredible weekend in Sooke! We’ll definitely be back to explore more!
Happy Exploring!
